The awards keep coming. Sport Clips recently ranked atop The Franchise Times Top 500, marking another year of strong, continued growth. The Franchise Times Top 500 is an exclusive annual ranking of the 500 largest U.S.-based franchise systems. Over the course of five months, The Franchise Times researches and investigates each franchise’s operating systems, resulting in one of the most credible and objective franchise rankings out there. Now, The Franchise Times Top 500 is considered the gold standard for aspiring entrepreneurs researching which franchise systems are best bet investments.
Rising to the top is Sport Clips, the premiere haircut salon for men and boys. Sport Clips placed No. 128 on The Franchise Times Top 500, up 11 spots from last year!
“We are honored to be recognized by The Franchise Times as one of the top performing franchise systems in the U.S.,” says Edward Logan, CEO of Sport Clips. “We’ve proven that we’re not only recession-resistant, but we’re also pandemic-resistant. This is a very stable business with steady cash flow and straightforward business model. Now is a great time to invest in Sport Clips, because as we head into 2023, we’re excited about the great real estate opportunities that exist right now, as well as the disruption of client behavior. As people change their buying behavior and their habits, the brands that go out and capture those clients are going to win an outsize market share. That’s going to be us because that’s how we’re thinking.”
The Top Men’s Hair Salon Franchise
There’s simply no bigger name in men and boys’ hair care than Sport Clips, which has grown to more than 1,850 locations since it was founded in 1993. The Sport Clips business model encourages Team Leaders to work on – and not in – their business, which allows them to focus on creating a family-like culture, empowering their team, growing their business, implementing marketing strategies, and taking care of back-end administrative duties. With a store manager taking care of the day-to-day operation, it just doesn’t get any more straightforward than that! By freeing up our Team Leaders time to concentrate their efforts on growth, Sport Clips has emerged as the perfect investment for multi-unit ownership. In fact, many of our Team Leaders have opened anywhere from 10 to 40 locations.
Sport Clips is also dedicated to helping as many aspiring entrepreneurs realize their dreams of business ownership as possible, which is why we’ve kept initial investment costs incredibly low. As a result, the estimated total investment cost to open to open one new Sport Clips franchise ranges from $266,300 to $439,500, which includes the franchise fee, cost of build out, Grand Opening marketing expenses and up to six months of capital. From day one, Sport Clips business model is designed to start bringing in profits as soon as the doors open, helping you become established financially in just the first few weeks of operation.
And let’s not forget the world-class training and support Sport Clips provides. Sport Clips helps its Team Leaders master the tools, resources, and mentoring to become the very best behind-the-scenes owner. Once you’ve completed our training and support programs, you’ll know how to hire and develop a team, how to manage compensation and scheduling, how to use our technology, and how to market effectively in your community. And that’s just to name a few! Sport Clips is available 24/7 to help Team Leaders grow your business to its full potential.
Sport Clips has announced it has brought on two professional team members to its already powerhouse corporate organization, passionate about helping our team leaders find growth in franchise ownership.
Ashley Whitlock started with Sport Clips in May 2022 as a Field Marketing Coordinator, organizing grand openings around the U.S. In Nov. 2022, Whitlock was promoted to Lead Generation Specialist, working with key suppliers to attract new franchisees.
“I can pinpoint the exact decision I made in college that led me to my current role,” Whitlock said. “I was introduced to Sport Clips my sophomore year of college, before I was even looking or even considering jobs after I graduated. I couldn’t be more grateful for this team that supported me before I was even a part of it. The culture is what made me join, and that same culture is what we show our Team Leaders.”
Andrea Rokovich began her Sport Clips career in the IT department as a Support Specialist in May 2016, and was quickly promoted to Project Coordinator in March 2017. Now, Rokovich has been promoted again to Franchise Administration Specialist, working with document production, brand excellence, and data management.
“The two reasons I love working for Sport Clips are, I love our company culture, and I love the opportunities Sport Clips affords us to give back to our community through their many philanthropic efforts,” she said. “I love my job because we are a team in every sense of the word. We encourage and support each other in daily activities, and rally together to ensure every project and initiative meets Sport Clips exceptional standards.”
At Sport Clips, we are always supporting our team members, investing in their career growth and upward mobility, as well as giving them every opportunity to learn, advance and evolve in our company. Ever since Sport Clips was founded nearly 30 years ago, we’ve ingrained into our culture a mission that puts the future of our team members first. Everyone on the Sport Clips team is empowered, from the leadership team to Team Leaders to store managers and stylists, to find the most growth and meaning in their careers.
“In any business, the competitive advantage is the people that make up the organization,” says Gordon Logan, Founder of Sport Clips. “We’re looking for people with passion and people who love people. We’re looking for people who want to build teams and see their teams succeed. If we can attract the Team Leaders that focus on their teams, that’s the right fit. We believe success flows up.”
In turn, by making sure everyone in our entire organization feels appreciated and is given every opportunity to grow, Sport Clips has cultivated a company value with team members invested in the brand’s future.
“Culture is key,” says Julie Vargas, Vice President of Career Development & Team Member Engagement. “If you take care of your people, they will take care of you. It sounds so simple, but it’s so important. If you have happy stylists, they will go above and beyond for your customers. But just as importantly, if you take care of your people, they will stay with you, they will be loyal to you, and they will drive your success.”
Recognized yet again as one of the best bet franchise investment opportunities, Sport Clips was named atop of ranking for yet another year in Entrepreneur magazine’s esteemed Franchise 500 ranking. Entrepreneur magazine, the premier source for everything small business, listed Sport Clips as No. 30 out of 500 of the top performing franchise systems in the U.S.
“With this year’s record-breaking number of applicants, the list offers a comprehensive overview of the state of the franchise world as it emerges from the most challenging days of the pandemic into uncertain economic conditions—and still keeps going strong,” Entrepreneur wrote. “There’s something here for every prospective franchisee, whether you’re interested in finding an opportunity within a brand that has been around for decades or in getting in on the ground floor of the next emerging trend.”
Franchises are ranked within respective categories, and reflect how each company scored in this year’s Franchise 500, based on an evaluation of more than 150 data points in the areas of cost and fees, size and growth, franchise support, brand strength, as well as financial strength and stability. Landing a high ranking yet again this year’s list is a reflection of Sport Clips’ strength, business model and continued innovation, beating out a number of highly performing competitors.
Invest in a Franchise with a Recognizable Brand
One of the most important factors when deciding on what franchise to invest in is brand recognition. Put simply: the more people know your brand, the more business you’ll receive. And who doesn’t know Sport Clips? Indeed, you’d be hard pressed to find a more recognizable brand in the hair salon industry, let alone the franchise world as a whole. Sport Clips brand recognition and incredible reputation is a major asset for entrepreneurs who want to run their own business with a leg up on the competition.

Game On: How Two Families Joined Forces to Open Sport Clips Haircuts Newest Franchise Location
With close to 2,000 locations all over the U.S. and in Canada, Sport Clips Haircuts is one of the top-rated men’s hair franchises globally. As an investment opportunity, owning a Sport Clips franchise is a great diversifying tool for entrepreneurs seeking to build wealth. Two separate husband and wife teams, Jai Thar and Sweta Shah, and Varun and Chhavi Suri, were two such couples looking for their next venture in business when they met and went through the Sport Clips Discovery Days process. Today, they have joined forces and are on schedule to open the newest franchise location of Sport Clips Haircuts Franchise in Columbus, Ohio. The two couples, and their road to opening their franchise, are outstanding examples of the opportunity Sport Clips Haircuts gives to prospective franchisees.
From Corporate Workers to Franchise Owners
Long before the two couples met and decided to join the Sport Clips team, Jai worked in informational technology for Fortune 500 companies. Similarly, Varun Suri also held executive positions for many years, but as time went on, both couples decided the best way forward was to begin exploring possibilities for building a franchise while maintaining their current jobs.
“Our wives were actually instrumental in looking for ownership opportunities and diversifying our portfolio options,” Varun explained. “Both of us shared the vision that we didn’t want to reinvent the wheel when it came to building a business. We wanted to follow a successful model and use our skills to run the finances and the overall business. Investing in the Sport Clips’ franchise gave us the power to do just that.”
With both couples being savvy in their business experience, a lot of homework was done before purchasing the franchise. “We looked at a few options, but as we went through the immersive onboarding process, we found the information Sport Clips provided was very transparent,” Varun said. “They took the time to clarify expectations, and together we determined if we were the right fit for each other.”
Sold on Support
Both couples met with other Sport Clips Team Leaders (franchisees) and went to different Sport Clips stores to gain as much knowledge as possible about the brand. “Meeting with the entire Sport Clips team made the decision for me,” Jai said. “The support was outstanding.” The Sport Clips franchising model encompasses a complete and innovative launch process for new owners. The company has poured hours of time and resources into giving owners, stylists, and team members the most up-to-date and tech savvy training in the industry. So, when you join the Sport Clips family, you are really joining a team of champions who are ready to pour time and energy back right back into you.
“We saw the difference with our own eyes,” Varun explained. “The experience was so refreshing. Our wives loved the process, and they felt heard and listened to from the very beginning. When my wife learned that in the world of male grooming, owners could make a real impact in their communities and in the lives of those they employ, she said ‘game on.’”
Jai, Sweta, Varun and Chhavi will be game-ready when their franchise opens later this year. “We are so keen to get this going,” Varun said. The four franchise owners are at the finish line of their prep work and are eagerly awaiting the kick-off of their franchise investment later this year.

A Commitment To Store Growth
Huddles aren’t just for the football field. For years, Sport Clips Haircuts has hosted an annual National Huddle to bring franchisees (Team Leaders) and their Team Members from across the country together to create a sense of teamwork, come up with innovative ideas, and work as a group toward problem solving. The 2022 Sport Clips Haircuts National Huddle theme was “Dare To Be” to challenge Team Leaders and Team Members to strive for greatness.
“The Sport Clips brand is strong, and the excitement for the future is even stronger. We were thrilled to have three thousand franchisees, stylists, support team members and supplier partners gathered in Nashville, with everyone focused on serving our clients as the pros in men’s hair,” says Edward Logan, Sport Clips CEO and president. “The Huddle theme of ‘Dare to Be’ is defined by our enhanced training for stylists, advancements in our technology to better serve our clients, and a renewed commitment to philanthropy to position Sport Clips.”
At the Huddle, Team Members discussed that 2022 was on track to have the highest number of store openings since 2018. Sport Clips is also the only national hair care provider, with more locations now than in 2019. It was also shown that new franchisees are coming from more diverse backgrounds than ever, with an increase in veteran franchisees since 2020 (who now represent 12% of the system). And, according to a client survey, Sport Clips ranked the highest out of any hair care brand as the one customers would recommend, with one of the best in-store experiences.

Is This The Year To Invest In The Hair Franchise Industry?
The Year of the Franchise
As millions of Americans reevaluated their career paths in the past few years and decided they want to control their own fate by running their own business, 2022 has truly become the year of the franchise, and for most, the best time to jump into the franchise industry.
Indeed, the COVID pandemic reversed a decades-long decline in the pace of entrepreneurship. According to a report in Vox, a record 5.4 million Americans applied for business IDs in 2021, with 2022 on track to surpass that number.
Even Forbes magazine reported that as many businesses struggled during the pandemic, franchises thrived. For so many Americans who wanted to run their own business, they chose the franchise model, which offers so many advantages, such as a proven operating strategy, strong backing support and brand awareness.
“After nearly two years of economic uncertainty, more and more people are following their entrepreneurial dreams and taking control of their destiny through business ownership,” Forbes wrote. “As a result, interest in franchising is reaching an unprecedented high, and 2022 is set to be a year of major franchise growth.”
Salon Franchise Industry is Booming
The hair care and beauty industry has seen this same remarkable growth in the past few years. In the U.S. alone, the hair and beauty industry generated $64 billion in revenue in 2018, with the 50 largest salons accounting for about 15% of sales.
According to a report Trafft, the market could hit $87 billion by 2023!
“The hair care and beauty industry is dynamic and continues to grow at a rapid pace,” Trafft reported. “Consumers are always looking for the latest trends and the best hair care products and services. Their needs are always changing. In order to meet these demands, the hair industry continues to develop and evolve.”

Sport Clips Franchise CEO & President Named a Top Franchise Influencer
1851 signals out Edward Logan as one of the most influential people in franchising for 2022
Continuing to make waves in the franchise world, Sport Clips CEO and president Edward Logan was recently nominated as a top franchise influencer for 2022, and now is among a list of 175 industry professionals deserving of recognition.
This year, 1851 Franchise teamed up with SeoSamba to come up with the list of most influencing people in franchising.
“Franchising is a big world, and it’s only getting bigger. Still, it’s a community, and a fairly close-knit community at that,” 1851 Franchise wrote. “That’s why it’s essential for everyone in the industry to know who’s who.”
And it’s not hard to see why Sport Clips’ Logan made the list.
Logan leads the largest franchise dedicated to men’s and boy’s hair care in the nation, with a footprint in every state, and was named president and CEO in 2020 to oversee the franchise founded by his father, Gordon Logan.
But to be sure, Logan has put in his dues since joining Sport Clips in 2010. Through sheer hard work and dedication, Logan has worked his way up the ladder the last 11 years, from managing one store to being an essential part of the company’s unprecedented growth. Under his tenure, Sport Clips has grown from 700 stores in 2010 to nearly 2,000 stores as of 2022.
Through it all, Logan has navigated the pandemic, and has planned for the future of the company through the Team Leader Advisory Council and Area Developer Council, which places a point of emphasis on recruitment, training, innovative technology and services.
And, most importantly, Logan has never forgotten the sense of philanthropy the company was founded on, as Sport Clips continues to better the lives of veterans through the VFW Foundation for Help A Hero Scholarships. Recently, the company has donated $1.55 million to veterans and service members through the program.
These days, Sport Clips is uniquely positioned to thrive in the wake of the pandemic as Americans across the country realize how important salon and spa services are to everyday life. Indeed, 80% of consumers say salon and spa services are one of the most significant factors in regaining a sense of normalcy, which has led to the industry being named one of the hottest categories for 2022.
As a result, Sport Clips is poised for a banner year.
“Sport Clips is stronger than ever before,” says Edward Logan, CEO of Sport Clips. “We’ve proven that a Sport Clips can be not only recession-resistant, but also pandemic-resistant. This is a very stable business with a straightforward business model. Now is a great time to invest in Sport Clips because as we head into 2022, we’re excited about the great real estate opportunities that exist right now, as well as the disruption of client behavior. As people change their buying behavior and their habits, the brands that go out and capture those clients are going to win an outsize market share. That’s going to be us because that’s how we’re thinking.”
